William Thomas McDermitt
WILLIAM THOMAS McDERMITT (1884-1961). Landscape painter, printmaker.
Having come to southern California at an early age, William McDermitt graduated from Pomona High School and Pomona College. He then continued his studies in NYC at the Pratt Institute and ASL. During the 1920s he taught at Washington State College in Pullman. After returning to Los Angeles in the early 1930s, McDermitt began teaching at the Los Angeles Businessmen's Art Club. He often took his pupils on painting excursions into the nearby deserts. McDermitt died in Los Angeles on Dec. 4, 1961. A highly skilled painter, his works are rare.

This is one of four McDermitt paintings I \recently acquired (see site for others). Original 1934 California Plein Air Landscape by W.T. McDermitt! Painting is signed, dated & titled on the back "WALKER RIVER, 1934. W.T. McDERMITT". Painting is canvas laid to masonite & is in Gallery Frame. Entire piece measures 24" x 27", painting is 16" x 20" & is in Excellent Condition. |
