A painter and sculptor, Lloyd Sexton was born in Hilo, Hawaii in 1912 and settled in Honolulu in 1937 after studying art in Boston at the School of the Museum of the Fine Arts and the Slade School in London. He was known for his floral paintings and was part of the evolving decorative arts movement in Hawaii in the 1930s and 1940s. It was a blending of depictions of island floral and fauna with Art Deco style.
